Tempered Glass Expert Discusses Edge Finish

May 8, 2012 By Tom Read Leave a Comment

Tempered glass expert reminds those using tempered glass as oven doors or in other applications where the glass will be non-uniformly heated that the glass edge finish is critical. If the center of the glass door is heated first, the door edge is put into tension. If the edging is poorly done,
the door can fail spontaneously. Numerous failure analysis performed on tempered glass failures have shown the door failure to commence on the edge as a result of heating of the door center.
