Corrosion Failure of Sink Bracket

March 5, 2019 By Tom Read Leave a Comment

A woman was leaning on a sink in a public restroom. She was resting on one arm while looking into a mirror above the sink. Suddenly the sink fell off the wall and injured her foot. The cause of failure was severe corrosion of the cast iron bracket that held the sink to the sall. The bracket was weakened to the point that it could not sustain the load of the sink plus her partial weight. The subject bracket is severly corroded.  The attached photographs show how badly the wall bracket was corroded. This is the result of years of use without periodic inspection.
