Glass Expert at Read Consulting performed a glass fracture analysis on an automobile side window that failed spontaneously. It is important to note that auto side windows are made of thermally tempered glass. Below is a photograph of the failed window taken at the origin. This window failure was caused by a nickel sulfide particle captured in the tempered glass. Over time this particle expanded creating a crack that caused the rapid window failure. More detailed photographs of the failure origin are given above.
